Johannesburg – This weekend, the city will experience an enchanting evening filled with poetry, electronic sound, and rich cultural expression.

Eon The Mod, the French/South African electric poetry collective led by spoken word artist and Poetry Slam champion Ewok, is set to debut at the Collectors’ Collective Record Bar (CCRB) on Friday, 22 May 2026, as part of the final segment of the “Make UBUNTU Great Again Tour” (MUGA Tour).

Hosted by 9II5, a respected curated music event initiative, the evening guarantees a captivating, Bohemian-inspired ambiance centered around sound quality, intimacy, and authentic creative spirit.

Central to the MUGA Tour is Ewok, whose impactful and socially conscious poetry draws from real-life experiences and the urgent transformations of our world.

His heartfelt lyrics harmonize with the improvised electronic soundscapes crafted by French modular musician and composer Charles Amblard, with sound designer and engineer Vincent Hoppe adding a masterful touch.

This trio embodies over 30 years of combined performance experience, having graced diverse stages, from intimate theaters to prominent festivals.

The Make UBUNTU Great Again Tour marks the first performance of this distinctive project on South African soil, concluding in Johannesburg.

Ewok shared his reflections ahead of the show: “It’s been an exciting week with Charles and Vincent diving straight into our band rehearsals.

“We’re sharpening our performance.

“At some point, you must recognize that you’ve put forth your best effort and let it unfold naturally.

“This is that moment. Here we go, here you come, there it is.”

The MUGA Tour is deeply anchored in the band’s conscious, socio-political vision, positioning art as a vital element in the global push for eco-social justice.

9II5 has envisioned the Johannesburg event as a poetry jam session in a snug lounge environment, complete with couch seating, ambient lighting, greenery, rugs, and artistic wall decor, cultivating a space that values sound quality over volume and connection over spectacle.

The supporting lineup has been thoughtfully curated to amplify every facet of Eon The Mod’s performance. Featured artists include:

Funkedelik:

KZN-born, JHB-based DJ Sithembile Mbonyana will set the tone for the night with neo-classic soul and lo-fi beats, creating a warm, fluid atmosphere.

Mak Manaka:

Soweto-born poet and globetrotter Maakomele R. Manaka will deliver a riveting slam poetry performance.

A published poet four times over, he has shared the stage with Presidents and represented South Africa during the closing ceremonies of the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

Freshly Pressed White Tees:

PJ & Plonk will showcase a live electronic performance that seamlessly merges music and storytelling.

Xabiso, God & YU:

Award-winning poet Xabiso Vili, together with guitarist Zelizwe Mthembu (The Brother Moves On), will intertwine spoken word with blues-infused guitar, transforming poetry into music and music into prayer.

9II5 Soundsystem (RobthaBanka): 9II5’s resident selector will keep the energy alive between sets, unifying the night.
