Moscow – In the past ten years, the Moscow Metro has recorded a decrease in crimes on trains and at stations by over fifty percent.

“This milestone is attributed to a combination of innovative technology, enhanced security measures, and cooperative efforts among different agencies,” the Moscow Metro announced in a statement shared with The Bulrushes on Wednesday, (7 May 2025).

Moscow Metro highlighted several crucial factors that have contributed to the drop in crime rates, such as:

  • The creation of a dedicated Security Service alongside rigorous inspection procedures
  • The proactive engagement of the Moscow Government’s Departmental Security Service
  • The installation of over 90,000 surveillance cameras across the metro system
  • The implementation of an advanced video analytics system known as “Sphere”

Maksim Liksutov, the Deputy Mayor of Moscow and head of the city’s transport and infrastructure sectors, underscored the vital importance of modern technology and collaboration in this achievement.

“Our specialists keep an eye on nearly every corner of the Moscow Metro’s infrastructure with cutting-edge cameras,” Liksutov remarked.

“The teamwork between the Security Service and law enforcement, backed by state-of-the-art technology, has elevated the Moscow Metro to one of the safest in the world.

“We are dedicated to ensuring the comfort and safety of passengers, in accordance with the directives of Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin.”

He concluded that the Moscow Metro’s commitment to safety and innovation solidifies its position as a leader in urban transportation security, ensuring a safe and reliable travel experience for all passengers.
