The Norwegian previously managed Manchester United from 2018, first as caretaker manager and then until his dismissal in 2021.

Solskjaer, now 52, took over from Mourinho in December 2018 and secured the permanent role after winning 14 out of his first 19 matches.

Mourinho is currently the head coach of Fenerbahce, where the two ex-Man Utd managers faced off last weekend at Fener’s Sukru Saracoglu Stadium.

Solskjaer’s team achieved a narrow 1-0 victory against the odds, even though Fenerbahce dominated possession during the game.

The home team enjoyed 62 percent possession and recorded 17 shots, while the visitors managed just 38 percent possession and eight attempts.

Nevertheless, Gedson Fernandes found the net just before half-time, clinching the win for Besiktas, prompting a frustrated Mourinho to quip: “If we played Besiktas 10 times, we’d win eight. They’d win one, and one would end in a draw.”

In response, Solskjaer humorously remarked, saying: “Well then, it looks like they’ll be winning the next 8.”

Interestingly, Fernandes’ winning goal for Besiktas holds significance, as he had previously been on loan at Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur in 2020, where he made only seven disappointing appearances.

Solskjaer, who played 235 matches for United, was let go after a 4-1 defeat to Watford in November 2021, subsequently being replaced by Ralf Rangnick.

The former striker revealed that he turned down several managerial offers while waiting for the ideal opportunity.

Ultimately, he was lured back into management by Turkish club Besiktas, signing a contract for one-and-a-half years.

Since then, he has guided the team to eight wins and one draw in his first 12 matches, including a notable 2-1 victory in an intense derby against Galatasaray in March.
