Thabo September, coach of Chippa United, is committed to securing a top-eight finish in the Betway Premiership, emphasizing that their future hinges on winning upcoming matches or relying on losses from teams below them.

This statement follows their 2-0 loss to SuperSport United on Saturday.

Despite the setback, the Chilli Boys are currently eighth in the league standings with 30 points from 25 matches, enjoyed a four-point lead over SuperSport United, who are in 13th place with 26 points.

When asked about their approach to maintaining their top-eight status, September provided a clear response: “Winning our matches or counting on teams below us to lose is vital for keeping our position,” he remarked.

“Right now, our focus is on Sundowns, and we need to achieve positive results in our two matches against them. Additionally, we have a game against Marumo Gallants in Bloemfontein, where we need to aim for points.”

“We can plan and work hard, but if it’s not meant to be, it won’t happen; we will do everything in our power to break into the Top 8. The opportunity is there, and as long as the points indicate that we can achieve it, we will continue to pursue it,” he added.

September acknowledges the challenges posed by Sundowns, yet remains determined to secure victories in their forthcoming matches, starting at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Wednesday and then at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on May 14.

“Indeed, competing against Sundowns is always tough for any team in the league,” September commented.

“Moreover, losing a key player during crucial moments just before facing Sundowns doesn’t serve us well, so we will prepare thoroughly for them.”

“We have skilled players, and we are gearing up to achieve a positive result against Sundowns.”

However, history is not in Chippa United’s favor, as they have yet to secure a league victory against Mamelodi Sundowns.
