The Motsepe Foundation Championship match between Durban City and Milford, which was postponed on April 22 at Chatsworth Stadium following the tragic death of Sinamandla Zondi, is set to continue on Wednesday at 19:30.

The league paused the match after 45 minutes, and it will now resume from that point. All statistics recorded up to that moment will remain intact. According to PSL regulations, since the interruption occurred in the first half due to a tragedy, the remaining 45 minutes will proceed without restarting the match entirely.

Zondi collapsed on April 22 and received prompt medical assistance at the venue before being swiftly transported to Chatsmed Garden Hospital.

This unfortunate incident deeply affected the Durban City players and coaching staff, resulting in the match’s suspension. Tragically, Zondi passed away at the hospital shortly before 8:00 PM.

Since the postponement, Durban City has achieved victories in their following two games, accumulating 52 points after 27 matches. They secured wins against Pretoria Callies and JDR Stars, with the latter occurring last weekend.

Under the leadership of coach Simo Dladla and assistant Pitso Dladla, Durban City, formerly known as Maritzburg United and now based in Durban, needs only four more points to secure promotion to the Betway Premiership for the upcoming season.

If they achieve promotion, which seems likely, it will mark the first time three Durban teams compete in the Betway Premiership during a single season.

This scenario relies on Golden Arrows, who currently sit in the relegation zone after failing to win their last four matches, sitting in 13th place and needing to gather enough points in their remaining five matches to avoid relegation.
