
Pretoria – Authorities have detained four individuals linked to the vanishing of journalist Sibusiso “Aserie” Ndlovu and his partner Zodwa Mdhluli.
Ndlovu, the founder of Capital Live FM, and Mdhluli were reported missing on February 18, 2025.
On Monday, May 5, 2025, national police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe revealed that the inquiry into the missing persons case has now been classified as a kidnapping and vehicle hijacking incident.
The arrests came shortly after Deputy Minister in the Presidency Kenny Morolong met with the families of Ndlovu and Mdhluli in KwaMhlanga, Mpumalanga.

Providing more insights, Brigadier Mathe mentioned: “The first suspect apprehended is thought to be the last person seen with the missing individuals.
“The second, third, and fourth suspects were discovered in possession of various vehicle components believed to belong to the missing journalist’s car.
“One of those detained is reportedly a mechanic who repairs and builds vehicles in the KwaMhlanga region.”
Brigadier Mathe confirmed the seizure of two VW Citi Golfs found with the suspects.
“Further charges, including house robbery and possession of stolen goods, may also be brought,” Brigadier Mathe pointed out.
“One suspect is expected to appear in the Mamelodi Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, May 6, 2025.
“The other three are expected to appear later in the week at the KwaMahlanga Magistrate’s Court.”
Brigadier Mathe highlighted that a multidisciplinary team, encompassing crime and counterintelligence units, a cybercrime unit, detectives, SAPS Airwing, and drone pilots, is actively engaged in the investigation.
“The search for the missing couple and additional suspects is ongoing,” Brigadier Mathe confirmed.
National Commissioner of the South African Police Service General Fannie Masemola expressed satisfaction with the recent progress in the case.
