Pretoria – The Pretoria Regional Court has postponed the case of businessman Kishene Chetty, who is facing charges of forgery, uttering, and fraud linked to a dubious R800,000 tender for police toners.
On Thursday, January 16, 2025, the regional court announced to Chetty and 12 other defendants that their hearing has been rescheduled to March 24, 2025, awaiting a decision on a high court application.
The defendants have submitted a motion to the high court to consolidate their police tender fraud case with another corruption charge they are currently facing.
They are confronted with several allegations, including forgery, uttering, fraud, and theft associated with the procurement of toners for the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Mpumalanga and the Eastern Cape Province.
This crime allegedly occurred in 2015 and resulted in a loss exceeding R800,000 for SAPS.
Some officials from SAPS are among those accused.
Investigations have uncovered that several police officers are suspected of colluding with the companies involved to secure the tender while knowing that these firms had submitted false documents.
The companies implicated in this case include Bambanani Marketing and Projects, Baroma Construction and Office Consumables, Super Stationery Distributors, Sifikile Furniture and Projects, along with Vatika and Projects.
“Investigations conducted by the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) have resulted in further charges against Chetty related to other alleged corruption cases involving millions within the SAPS,” stated IDAC Spokesperson Henry Mamothame.
