ERLING HAALAND has expressed that his remarkable £260 million, TEN-YEAR agreement with Manchester City feels “surreal.”
The Norwegian sensation, 24, is set to earn a minimum of £500,000 weekly BEFORE bonuses, making this transaction the largest contract in Premier League history, ensuring he remains with the Etihad club until 2034.
Haaland has also removed the release clauses from his previous agreement, which was initially set to run until 2027, preventing long-standing admirers Real Madrid and Barcelona from signing the striker at a reduced rate.
Additionally, City manager Pep Guardiola expressed his astonishment when the club’s football director, Txiki Begiristain, revealed the stunning length of the mega-contract.
Haaland commented: “It’s somewhat surreal, but I enjoy a bit of the surreal, so it feels great for me.”
“This is a significant achievement, and I am very pleased — it was an uncomplicated decision.”
SunSport reported on November 21 that securing Haaland’s tenure was City’s highest priority following the two-year extension of Guardiola’s contract.
Haaland transferred from Borussia Dortmund for £51.4 million in 2022 and has netted an incredible 111 goals in 126 matches.
His contract eclipses the nine-year deals signed by Chelsea players Cole Palmer, Enzo Fernandez, and Nicolas Jackson.
Haaland added: “Now I can entirely concentrate on upgrading my game, considering I’ll be here for such a lengthy period.”
“During my time with City over the past 2½ years, I have been fortunate to win several trophies, play great football, and have wonderful experiences.
“City is an amazing club with fantastic people and incredible supporters.
Erling Haaland shares his thoughts on his contract extension with Manchester City until 2034
“I want to extend my gratitude to Pep, his coaching staff, my teammates, and everyone at the club for their constant support.”
Haaland, who recently celebrated the birth of his first child, has claimed the Premier League’s Golden Boot for the last two seasons.
In the 2022-23 season, he netted 52 goals across all competitions, contributing to City’s historic Treble, and followed up with 38 goals the subsequent season.
This season, he has already scored 21 goals and looks to increase this tally against Ipswich tomorrow.
Pep expressed his surprise when he learned about the contract’s duration.
He remarked: “I asked Txiki to repeat it, and he confirmed, ‘Ten’. I thought, ‘Are you sure?’ He responded, ‘Yes’.
“This is incredible news for all of us. He is making me a better coach.
“He understands that there’s no better place for him to be for the next ten years.
“That’s why he and his family made this decision.”
In the meantime, striker Omar Marmoush has been excluded from Eintracht Frankfurt’s squad for their 2-0 victory over Dortmund on Friday night as he gears up for his transfer to City in a deal valued at up to £67 million.
