Here’s how SunSport‘s Ken Lawrence evaluated the players’ performances.

ANDRE ONANA: 8

Produced several outstanding saves in the first half and was unfortunate not to prevent Ugarte’s own goal.

LENY YORO: 5

Did not justify his reputation as one of Europe’s promising young defenders at £57 million, struggling against Kamaldeen Sulemana.

MATTHIJS DE LIGT: 6

One center-back truly showcased his capabilities, displaying strong leadership throughout the match.

LISANDRO MARTINEZ: 5

Struggled to influence the game, underperforming both as a defender and a leader.

AMAD DIALLO: 9

Remained composed while others lost their heads, affirming his status as a hero with a hat-trick in just ten minutes.

MANUEL UGARTE: 4

The own goal highlighted a poor first-half performance from a sluggish midfield.

KOBBIE MAINOO: 4

Substituted at halftime with a surprising replacement in Antony.

NOUSSAIR MAZRAOUI: 7

A shrewd signing by former manager Erik ten Hag at just £12.7 million, seamlessly fitting into Ruben Amorim’s tactical scheme.

ALEJANDRO GARNACHO: 5

Missed a glaring chance in the 20th minute but was one of the few players to display real energy amidst uncertainty about his future.

BRUNO FERNANDES: 5

Should not be the team captain. Despite his evident talent, he lacks the reliability needed for such a role.

RASMUS HOJLUND: 4

Provided an excellent assist for Garnacho that went astray; other than that, he offered little threat. Clearly frustrated after his teammate’s glaring miss.

SUBSTITUTES:

ZIRKZEE (for Hojlund 54): 4

Made an embarrassing mis-kick that was hard to watch.

COLLYER (for Ugarte 54): 5

At least he displayed some effort.

Added some creativity to the play and provided a brilliant assist for Amad’s second goal.

MAGUIRE (for Yoro 83): 5

Should have been brought on much earlier in the match.
