Johannesburg – The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, known as the Hawks, has made considerable headway in identifying those behind the leak of the Matric results for the 2024 class.

These results are alleged to have been sold online before their official release.

As reported by Hawks spokesperson Colonel Katlego Mogale, the Department of Education lodged a complaint on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at the Pretoria Central Police Station.

The case was swiftly referred to the Hawks for further inquiry.

“This morning, January 16, 2025, the Hawks’ Serious Economic Offences Unit, which is part of the Serious Commercial Crime Investigation and Cybercrime Investigation Head Office, executed a search and seizure warrant at a residence in Hillcrest, north of Johannesburg,” Colonel Mogale announced on Thursday, January 16, 2025.

“At the scene, the Hawks came across a 21-year-old male accompanied by his parents.”

“During the operation, they uncovered multiple electronic devices and an illegal shotgun loaded with live rounds.”

Colonel Mogale indicated that the 21-year-old suspect will be charged with illegal firearm possession, and the investigation into the leak of the Matric results is ongoing.
