Johannesburg – Vodacom Group (www.Vodacom.com) has been honored as Africa’s leading employer by the Top Employers Institute for the second year in a row.
This prestigious certification and top ranking have also been awarded to Vodacom Group, Vodacom South Africa, Vodacom Mozambique, Vodacom Tanzania, and Safaricom Kenya.
The Top Employers Institute confers this recognition based on companies’ achievements across essential HR domains, including people strategy, work environment, talent acquisition, learning, and employee well-being.
“We are immensely proud to receive the Top Employer certification in Africa for the second consecutive time,” says Shameel Joosub, CEO of Vodacom Group.
“We believe our employees’ well-being is essential to our mission of connecting for a brighter future.
“By continuously enhancing our Employee Value Proposition through thoughtful and inclusive policies and practices, we foster a workplace culture where individuals feel valued, empowered, and inspired to reach their full potential.”
In 2024, Vodacom refined its Employee Value Proposition with initiatives that underscore its commitment to cultivating an inclusive and supportive workplace environment.
Focusing on Compassion, Acceptance, Respect, and Empathy (C.A.R.E.), the company’s enhanced wellness programs provide support throughout all life stages, including menopause, and feature a more inclusive family responsibility leave policy.
“Maintaining our status as Africa’s Top Employer once again highlights our commitment to empowering our employees to excel,” comments Matimba Mbungela, Chief Human Resources Officer at Vodacom Group.
“Moreover, our dedication to nurturing talent and promoting career development within the tech sector also reaches millions of young individuals across the continent, who symbolize the future workforce.
“There is an urgent requirement to prepare the next generation for a rapidly changing digital economy.
“To meet this need, we have launched the Digital Skills Hub, with the goal of equipping one million young Africans by 2027 with access to self-paced digital skills training for individuals aged 18 to 35.”
Developed in collaboration with various tech organizations, including Amazon Web Services and Microsoft, the Vodacom Digital Skills Hub aims to boost digital literacy across Africa, addressing the digital skills gap in eight countries, including South Africa, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Mozambique, Lesotho, Egypt, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Kenya.
The Vodacom Digital Skills Hub is designed to inspire the next generation to explore careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), featuring engaging and practical digital skills training for young people on the continent.
AWS Educate is among the first programs offered through the Digital Skills Hub and enhances Vodacom’s existing online learning platforms.
AWS Educate gives beginners access to a comprehensive library of self-paced online training covering subjects from cloud fundamentals to artificial intelligence and machine learning.
“As we enter a new year, we encourage young individuals—whether students, job seekers, or aspiring entrepreneurs—to take full advantage of the Digital Skills Hub,” remarked Joosub.
“By supporting digital skills training as a Top Employer, we empower the future workforce and ensure that everyone has the chance to connect to a brighter future.”
