A shooting incident early on Saturday morning claimed the lives of eight people, while three others are currently hospitalized, leading to an extensive search operation by law enforcement.
Brigadier Donald Mdhluli, spokesperson for the provincial police, confirmed the unfortunate fatalities, noting that six victims were declared dead at the scene, with two others succumbing to their injuries in the hospital. One victim was found lifeless inside a bullet-riddled VW Polo, and another Polo at the location also exhibited firearm damage.

“We have deployed a specialized team to investigate the details surrounding the shooting,” Mdhluli remarked. He added that while no arrests have yet been made, the search for the armed gang responsible is being conducted with intensity.
Authorities are encouraging the public to provide any relevant information, urging anyone with insights to contact the Crime Stop hotline at 08600 10111 or to report through the MYSAPSAPP. “All information will be kept confidential, and callers can opt to remain anonymous,” Mdhluli assured.
Condemnation and Condolences
This incident has drawn strong rebuke from the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison. MEC Jackie Macie described the occurrence as deeply concerning and called for swift action.
“We ask the community to allow police the necessary space and time to carry out their investigation and ensure that those responsible are held accountable. Liquor vendors must prioritize the safety of their customers,” Macie emphasized.
