
Pienaar – Six people have unfortunately lost their lives, and several others have been injured in a shooting incident at a liquor store in Pienaar, near Mbombela (formerly known as Nelspruit), Mpumalanga.
As stated by Mpumalanga police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, the deadly shooting occurred on the morning of Saturday, January 11, 2025.
“A shooting took place in Pienaar, just outside Nelspruit, during the early hours of the morning, around 04:00,” Lieutenant Colonel Ndubane reported.
“We are currently conducting an investigation, as it seems that about six individuals were fatally shot on the scene, and more details regarding this incident will be disclosed as they become available.”
The deceased include five males and one female.
“An unspecified number of individuals have also sustained injuries and have been taken to the hospital,” Lieutenant Colonel Ndubane added.
Currently, the motive for the shooting remains uncertain.
No arrests have been made as of now.
In light of the tragic shooting, the African Transformation Movement (ATM) has called for a thorough investigation, immediate arrests, and prosecution.
“This dreadful incident highlights the urgent need for enhanced safety measures in our communities and calls for decisive action against those who commit such heinous acts,” stated the ATM.
“In the wake of this tragedy, the ATM offers its heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the victims.
“We recognize the intense grief caused by this senseless act of violence and stand in solidarity with the impacted families during this extremely challenging time.”
