Former PSL player and now a free agent, Mahlatsi Makudubela, is reportedly on the verge of joining Linafoot Ligue 1, generating interest from notable clubs in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where he is currently undergoing assessments.
Commonly referred to as Skudu, the South African winger has been without a club since July 2024, after his contract with Tanzanian heavyweights Young Africans ended at the conclusion of the previous season.
During his short time at Yanga, Makudubela played a crucial role in securing the club’s impressive fourth consecutive NBC Premier League title, as well as winning the Federation Cup and reaching the CAF Champions League quarterfinals.
After being without a team for six months, recent reports indicate that the 34-year-old winger has attracted interest from AS Vita Club, the 1973 African champions, who are keen to assess the seasoned player.
This news follows the exit of key player Elie Mpanzu from the Kinshasa-based club, who is drawing interest from Simba SC, managed by Fadlu Davids, while Vita is seeking a higher transfer fee for their valuable asset.
Prior to his departure from the Tanzanian club, there were reports that Makudubela had also drawn interest from other East African teams, including Rwandan champions APR FC, Azam FC, and multiple clubs within the Betway Premiership as the 2024/25 season approaches.
Even though a transfer did not go through, his connection to Rwanda was established back in January 2024, when the former Orlando Pirates player impressed during the Mapinduzi Cup in Zanzibar against APR.
Having won his first league title last season, Makudubela is eager to grasp the opportunity to become a champion in another country if a deal is concluded. Currently, AS Vita Club holds a three-point lead in Group B of the 13-team championship.
In addition to his time with Pirates in South Africa, the talented left-sided forward has played for teams such as Platinum Stars, Golden Arrows, Mamelodi Sundowns’ reserve side, Chippa United, Highlands Park, University of Pretoria, and Marumo Gallants.
