Mamelodi Sundowns defender Zuko Mdunyelwa acknowledges the extensive effort required to secure playing time with the Tshwane giants and is committed to maximizing any opportunity that arises.

Mdunyelwa, who transitioned to Sundowns from Chippa United in January of the previous year, has participated in only two league matches this season, both under the leadership of former coach Manqoba Mngqithi.

The 25-year-old also played in the CAF Champions League fixture against Mbabane Swallows. However, since the appointment of Portuguese coach Miguel Cardoso, Mdunyelwa has yet to see his name on the matchday roster.

The former Chippa right-back shares his enthusiasm to capitalize on his chance when it presents itself. “There’s a process, and I have objectives to fulfill [to earn that opportunity],” Mdunyelwa commented.

“The technical team is supporting me in getting back on track. I’m simply waiting for my moment, and I’m hopeful that when it arrives, I will seize it with both hands,” Mdunyelwa expressed.

Mdunyelwa remained in South Africa as the team traveled to Congo for their Champions League match against AS Maniema Union at Stade des Martyrs on Saturday (15:00), due to the absence of Bathusi Aubaas and Khuliso Mudau.

Currently, Sundowns holds the second position in Group B of the Champions League while leading the Betway Premiership.

Mdunyelwa is hopeful that the Brazilians will clinch the top spot in the Champions League, but he also recognizes that the league is still in its infancy, given its lengthy nature.

“It’s still the early stages of the Champions League, but I am confident that we will emerge victorious,” Mdunyelwa remarked.

“We are committed to putting forth our best effort, and we will build from there. Regarding the league, it resembles a marathon, as being at the top isn’t the only concern.

“Although we are currently in the lead, our aim is to maintain that position from now until the season ends, even if it poses challenges. I believe we can take it one game at a time until the conclusion of the season.”
