DARREN FERGUSON has responded to criticism from an Everton player regarding his choice to omit Tyler Young from the matchday roster.

The son of Sir Alex Ferguson watched as his team was eliminated from the FA Cup during their Thursday night fixture at Goodison Park.

Beto netted the opening goal for the Toffees in the first half, while Iliman Ndiaye sealed the win with a late penalty.

Supporters were eager to see Young, 18, take the field against his father and Everton defender Ashley Young, 39.

Unfortunately, Tyler remained on the bench, preventing a groundbreaking moment from happening.

In the entire 154-year history of the FA Cup, no father-son duo has ever competed against each other in a match.

After the loss, Ferguson mentioned that introducing Tyler onto the field wouldn’t have been the wisest choice for the team.

He remarked that an Everton player made an inappropriate comment about his decision not to play the young talent.

Ferguson explained: “It was challenging to keep Tyler on the bench, but I must prioritize what is best for the team.

“While I wanted Tyler to play, had the score been 2-0 at that point, I would have brought him in, but with it being 1-0, I had to select a forward instead.”

“I have to do everything I can to secure a positive outcome and support my team.

“One of their players made an inappropriate remark to me.”

“We are not a charity case.”

The choice to leave Tyler out was anticipated, given that he had only made one professional appearance before this match.

His sole match experience came as a substitute in the EFL Trophy game against Stevenage last October.

Meanwhile, Sean Dyche did not coach the team after his termination earlier that day.

In his absence, Seamus Coleman and club legend Leighton Baines took charge of the match.

The duo faced challenges, including an injury to Armando Broja, who left the field on a stretcher following an unfortunate fall that visibly impacted him.

Talks about Dyche’s replacement have already linked names like former manager David Moyes and ex-Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho to the position.
