California – Southern California is currently enduring its most catastrophic and lethal winter fires in more than four decades.
The devastating fires started on Tuesday.
Karen Bass, the mayor of Los Angeles, described the effects of the fires and the winds affecting the area as “devastating.”
The Palisades fire is presently the largest in the region, with the potential to become the most destructive in the history of the state.
Following this, the Eaton fire has impacted the northern parts of Los Angeles and remains uncontrolled.
In contrast, officials confirmed that the Hurst fire, situated just north of San Fernando, has been contained.
The wildfires have engulfed parts of Los Angeles, resulting in at least five deaths, damage to buildings, and the evacuation of more than 130,000 residents.
Reports reveal that several well-known Hollywood figures have lost their homes in the intense wildfires that have ravaged vast sections of southern Los Angeles.
Among the affected celebrities are Leighton Meester, Adam Brody, and Paris Hilton.
Paris Hilton shared on X: “Heartbroken beyond words. Sitting with my family, watching the news, and witnessing our home in Malibu burn to the ground on live TV is something no one should ever have to experience. This home held so many precious memories. It’s where Phoenix took his first steps.”
CalFire has indicated that the fire has already destroyed hundreds of structures, and resources are significantly strained as firefighters continue to combat the situation.
Nonetheless, assistance is being directed to California; LA County Fire Chief Anthony Marrone stated: “Firefighting units from Oregon, Washington, New Mexico, Utah, and Arizona are responding to the Southern California wildfires in Los Angeles.”
Brian Rice, president of the California Professional Firefighters, cautioned, “If you don’t have to be in the area and breathe the air, don’t. It’s hazardous.”
According to PowerOutage.us, more than 1.5 million homes are currently without power, with nearly a million of those in Los Angeles County.
In the meantime, the new Sunset Fire, which ignited on Wednesday evening, poses a significant threat to the Hollywood Hills area and is currently at zero percent containment.
On Wednesday evening, the National Weather Service issued a warning for north to northeast wind gusts of 30 to 50 mph expected on Thursday.
The Los Angeles Times characterized the situation in Los Angeles as having endured “a two-day nightmare” and emphasized the urgency of residents preparing for additional days of fire weather.
The US National Weather Service has issued a forecast indicating a continued “critical risk of fire weather over parts of southern California on Thursday.”
