The Orlando Pirates aim to climb to the top of the Betway Premiership by taking down Cape Town City at DHL Stadium this Wednesday (19:30).

Currently, the Pirates are positioned with 27 points, just three points behind the leaders Mamelodi Sundowns (30), who have played an additional match. The records of both teams are quite similar, with the Pirates netting 22 goals while allowing only four.

Assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi has praised Cape Town City’s new manager, Muhsin Ertugral, recognizing him as a seasoned strategist who will bring a fresh spark to the team for the upcoming match.

City is now guided by former Pirates coach Ertugral, who took over from Eric Tinkler earlier this year.

Ertugral began his tenure on a positive note, leading City to a win over Kaizer Chiefs—one of his former clubs—this past Sunday at DHL Stadium.

On the other hand, City is set to face a Pirates team in great shape, having recently claimed a 3-0 victory against Stade d’Abidjan in their CAF Champions League group stage match last weekend.

The Pirates also bring confidence from their earlier 2-0 victory over City in the MTN8 second-leg semifinal at Orlando Stadium this season. The first leg ended in a 1-1 draw at DHL Stadium, promising an exciting atmosphere for Wednesday’s match in Cape Town.

Despite their recent success, Ncikazi recognizes that City under Ertugral will present a formidable challenge.

“This is another chance for our team to collect points,” Ncikazi remarked.

“It won’t be an easy match, as they have a very skilled coach, fresh tactics, and renewed energy on their side.

“They will be highly motivated after their last performance. However, the positive aspect for our team is our dedication to the upcoming game and our desire to improve our performance.

“We plan to put forth our best effort and secure three points against Cape Town City.”

The Pirates will miss their crucial player, Makhehleni Makhaula, who is suspended for this match due to accumulating yellow cards.
