Stellenbosch FC forward Andre de Jong is keen to secure essential points in their important Betway Premiership showdown against Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium this Wednesday evening.

After his impressive performance in the CAF Confederation Cup, the New Zealand international is confident that his team is ready to convert their continental achievements into domestic victories.

De Jong played a critical role in Stellenbosch’s CAF win against CD Lunda Sul on Sunday, scoring two goals to keep their advancement hopes alive.

Nevertheless, the striker emphasizes that the team has quickly redirected its attention to the upcoming task — a crucial match against AmaKhosi at the renowned FNB Stadium.

“The atmosphere within the squad is positive and encouraging. We’ve been in Gauteng since Saturday, and I sense everyone is in a great mindset, eager to conclude the week with a solid performance against Kaizer Chiefs,” De Jong shared.

As Stellenbosch has only one league match scheduled for January due to their CAF obligations, De Jong highlighted the significance of securing all three points.

“This match is vital for us, especially considering the tightly contested league standings. Since it’s our only league game this month owing to CAF commitments, we must aim for a full three points,” he added.

Currently, Stellenbosch is in a stronger position in the league compared to Kaizer Chiefs, who have been facing challenges with consistency. However, historical data illustrates that the Chiefs have a favorable record, winning four of their last five encounters with Stellenbosch.

Conversely, recent performances indicate that the visitors might possess the momentum needed to turn the tide in their favor.

“Our attention has now shifted to the upcoming match against Kaizer Chiefs on Wednesday, and I believe we are energized by our significant result from the weekend. We aim to carry our recent CAF form into the league,” De Jong remarked.

The recent performances of Stellenbosch have displayed resilience and effective attacking capabilities, traits they will need to replicate under the bright lights at FNB Stadium. On the other hand, the Chiefs — despite their difficulties — will be motivated to commemorate a significant milestone as the club celebrates its 55th anniversary.
