Cape Town – The Secretary General of the African National Congress (ANC), Fikile Mbalula, has declared that disciplinary actions will be initiated against top party members Tony Yengeni and Obed Bapela due to statements that harm the party’s image.

During a press conference on Monday, January 6, 2025, in anticipation of the forthcoming “ANC January 8 statement” commemorative event, Mbalula addressed Yengeni’s recent comments that were at odds with the ANC’s official positions.

In response to Yengeni’s critical statements regarding the ANC and the Government of National Unity, Mbalula remarked: “Tony Yengeni is merely a political Casanova.”

He went on to say: “He is spreading ambiguous political views that resonate with a limited faction of dissenters against the ANC.”

“He will face charges… I have informed him through SMS… I have reached out to him via phone… we will move forward with charges… he will be brought before the ANC’s disciplinary processes.”

The Secretary General of the ANC pointed out that Yengeni’s posts on social media contradict the party’s position and align with the uMkhonto weSizwe Party.

Mbalula also warned other ANC leaders against making negative comments about the party’s leadership on social media.

“They too will soon face consequences,” he cautioned.

Mbalula also indicated that senior member Bapela will be charged concerning his actions during a visit to Morocco, which conflicted with ANC policies.
