Johannesburg – A 42-year-old police sergeant, who reportedly attempted suicide following the alleged murder of his 22-year-old girlfriend, Chesnay Patricia Keppler, has been released from the hospital. He is set to appear in the Protea Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
The sergeant from Eldorado Park had been receiving treatment in the hospital since he shot himself before his arrest over a week ago.
According to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID), the agency responsible for investigating incidents involving police officers, “The accused police officer has been discharged from the hospital and is now in custody at Moroka Police Station.”
Allegations state that the police sergeant shot the traffic warden through a kitchen window at her home in Eldorado Park on Boxing Day, December 26, 2024.

The violent incident was captured by a witness, and the footage has been submitted to IPID.
After shooting himself, the sergeant was hospitalized under police supervision.
The accused was unable to attend the previously scheduled court date in the Protea Magistrate’s Court on Monday, December 30, 2024.
However, IPID has confirmed that the accused has now been discharged and will appear in court.
