A darts player was quickly transported to the hospital on Christmas Day after injuring his finger while slicing ham.
Jermaine Wattimena experienced a challenging lead-up to his second-round match against two-time champion Peter Wright.
The Dutch competitor achieved a significant win by knocking out James Wade in the second round, before taking a short break from the oche during Christmas.
Unfortunately, he had an accident while preparing ham for his holiday dinner, which led to a cut on his finger.
Wattimena received medical attention for the injury and was later seen on stage with a bandage on his wounded finger.
Sky Sports commentator Glen Durrant commented on Wattimena’s situation, explaining:
“Jermaine Wattimena has faced a rough few days.
“During his Christmas dinner, he injured his finger on his non-throwing hand while carving the ham, which required a trip to the hospital.”
Wright, his opponent, also faced difficulties in the days leading up to their confrontation.
The 54-year-old had to rest on his sofa due to illness and was forced to pause his throw to cough multiple times.

Despite these obstacles, it did not hinder his performance, as he exhibited his skills, returning to his formidable form after a tough year.
Wright recorded his highest average since claiming the World Darts Championship title in 2022, maintaining control throughout the match, even as Wattimena narrowed the score to 3-2.
