Johannesburg – The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has raised concerns regarding audio-visual content that has been circulating across various social media platforms, featuring one of its employees on the South African airline, FlySafair.

This unfortunate episode, documented by multiple passengers, occurred on a flight from Durban to Cape Town on Boxing Day.

In a statement made public on Saturday, December 28, 2024, the SABC expressed its dismay over the incident and reiterated its commitment to instill the values of respect and integrity among its staff in all interactions.

The video shows the staff member mentioning the SABC and stating that the incident will be covered by SABC News.

The public broadcaster stated, “We would like to reaffirm that SABC News adheres to the Editorial Code and maintains its editorial independence, with all decisions related to news being made within the Newsroom, without influence from non-editorial staff.”

Additionally, the SABC noted that it would follow the appropriate channels in accordance with its internal procedures to address the actions of the staff member.

The conduct of the SABC employee has faced criticism from the African National Congress (ANC).

In a statement on Saturday, the ANC expressed that it “noted with disgust and disdain the conduct of a woman on a domestic flight who behaved in an unruly and inappropriate manner while using the name of the ANC to justify her actions.”

The ANC emphasized that it “categorically disassociates itself from such behavior, which is at odds with the values and principles of our movement.”

“Regardless of her association with the ANC, we firmly assert that no individual is entitled to behave in such an unacceptable manner, especially while misrepresenting the respected name of the ANC.”

“We have initiated an investigation into her membership status.”

The SABC employee has been identified on social media as Nobuntu Nobu Mkhize, reported to serve as a brand manager at Metro FM.
