Johannesburg – Authorities have successfully rescued a kidnapped Pakistani businessman and arrested a 46-year-old woman in Sebokeng, Gauteng.
As per police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Amanda van Wyk, the woman is facing charges of murder and kidnapping and was taken into custody on Monday, December 23, 2024.
Initial investigations suggest that three men in a BMW X5 abducted the businessman in Lenasia just over two months ago.
Immediately following the kidnapping, a ransom demand was made for the victim’s safe return.
Through a comprehensive investigation, police followed up on tips regarding the suspects’ location in Sebokeng.
“A search of the specified area resulted in the victim being found confined within one of the rooms,” stated Lieutenant Colonel Van Wyk.
She also noted that the body of an unidentified male was located at the scene.
“A female suspect was subsequently apprehended at the site,” added Lieutenant Colonel Van Wyk.
“Police seized two mobile phones from the premises, which will play a crucial role in ongoing investigations; further arrests are expected.”
The detained suspect is scheduled to appear in court shortly.
Lieutenant Colonel Van Wyk urged the community to promptly report any abductions of family members or friends to the nearest police station or to contact the SAPS Crime Stop hotline at 08600 10111.
