Stellenbosch – A Hawks warrant officer, accused of fatally shooting his wife, will spend Christmas in custody following the adjournment of his case.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) reported that the accused, whose name has not been released, made his first court appearance today, December 23, 2024, at the Stellenbosch Magistrate’s Court.

It is alleged that during a domestic dispute on Saturday, December 21, 2024, the Hawks warrant officer shot and killed his wife.

According to IPID, “the couple was involved in a conflict at their home in Khayamnandi, Stellenbosch.”

“The wife attempted to escape into a neighbor’s yard, but the accused pursued her and fired shots as she entered the residence next door.”

“It is further alleged that he (the accused) followed her inside the house, continuing to shoot at her while neighbors observed the incident.”

IPID stated that the wife succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. The accused Hawks officer is now facing a murder charge, as reported by IPID.

Authorities retrieved ten spent cartridges and two bullet casings from the scene of the crime.

The accused officer is currently held at the Allandale Holding cells in Stellenbosch.

IPID has indicated that the case is postponed to December 30, 2024, for bail proceedings.
