Durban – A man in his 50s tragically lost his life in a swimming pool in the Amanzimtoti area, situated south of Durban.
“Just after 7 pm on Sunday evening, ALS Paramedics received a call regarding yet another drowning incident on MacDonald Road in Kingsburgh, south of Durban,” reported spokesperson Garrith Jamieson.
“Upon their arrival, paramedics found the unresponsive body of a man believed to be in his 50s, located near a private swimming pool.”
“Unfortunately, there was nothing that could be done, and he was declared dead at the scene.”
The police were on-site and will carry out further investigations.
“This marks the second drowning incident ALS Paramedics have responded to today,” Jamieson stated with sorrow.
He went on to say that earlier on Sunday, just before 2:30 pm, ALS Paramedics had responded to a near-drowning situation at a local beach in Doonside, not far from Amanzimtoti, south of Durban.
“When paramedics arrived, they found a woman, believed to be in her twenties, receiving help from local lifeguards,” Jamieson recounted.
“Advanced Life Support Paramedics took over her care, ensuring she was stabilized at the scene before transferring her to a nearby hospital for further treatment.”
“It is reported that the woman encountered difficulties while swimming and was assisted by lifeguards.”
Jamieson also stated: “We urge everyone to exercise caution while swimming and to refrain from swimming under the influence of any substances.”
