
Pretoria – The City of Tshwane has raised alarms regarding the vandalism at the SSG Substation in Centurion this week, highlighting a concerning trend of attacks on substations in recent weeks.
In a statement released on Wednesday, (18 December 2024), Councillor Kholofelo Morodi, the MMC for Corporate and Shared Services overseeing Region 4, expressed: “I am deeply troubled by the increasing occurrences of vandalism at various substations in recent times.”
The SSG Substation in Centurion experienced vandalism on Monday, (16 December 2024).
“This incident is a stark reminder of the challenges we face in our mission to deliver a reliable and continuous power supply to our communities,” noted MMC Morodi.
“The damage to the SSG Substation has caused significant disruptions for our residents, impacting daily activities and local enterprises.”
“Acts of vandalism not only undermine the stability of our infrastructure but also add strain on our resources as we work to restore services.”
“We recognize the severe impact that these power outages have on our residents’ lives and are committed to addressing these issues with urgency and diligence.”
“However, we cannot face this challenge alone.”
MMC Morodi highlighted the importance of community members taking an active role in safeguarding public infrastructure.
“We urge residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities,” said MMC Morodi.
“By working together, we can prevent further acts of vandalism and ensure the security of our infrastructure.”
“We also want to reassure the residents of Tshwane that we are enacting robust measures to protect our infrastructure and minimize the risk of future incidents.”
MMC Morodi mentioned that this initiative is part of the Executive Mayor’s 100-Day Action Plan aimed at bolstering security protocols and enhancing surveillance to deter criminal activity.
“We regret the disruptions experienced by residents,” she remarked.
“Let us unite in our efforts to safeguard our community and uphold the values of accountability and transparency in our pursuit of dependable service delivery.”
