Johannesburg – Authorities detained two individuals at OR Tambo International Airport just after they landed in South Africa on a flight from Brazil. One suspect was caught with 4 kg of cocaine in his luggage, while the other was identified through an X-ray showing ingested pellets of the substance.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Amanda van Wyk announced that the suspected drug traffickers were arrested on Sunday, December 15, 2024.

Lieutenant Colonel Van Wyk indicated: “The Brazilian drug mules, aged 30 and 35, had just arrived from São Paulo, Brazil when they were intercepted at the airport.

“One of the suspects was found carrying over 4kg of cocaine, and a medical X-ray validated the presence of drug ‘bullets’ ingested by the other mule.

“A total of fifteen ‘bullets’ containing cocaine were recovered.”

The suspects are expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court later this week on charges related to drug trafficking.

Alert officers at the airport have successfully captured a number of drug traffickers in recent weeks.
