Moscow – The public transportation network in Moscow is once again celebrating the holiday season, with vibrant decorations illuminating the metro and tram lines across the city.
Continuing a cherished tradition spanning more than 50 years, the Moscow metro has launched a special New Year’s train on Line 5.
This themed train is decorated with more than 700 three-dimensional ornaments, including snowmen, Christmas trees, snowflakes, and festive baubles, transforming each compartment into a winter wonderland.
This decoration effort is part of the ongoing preparations for the New Year festivities in Moscow.
With the oversight of Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin, the city’s metro system has introduced trains embellished with holiday decorations.
This year, a Winter train, featuring symbols of the upcoming holiday celebrations, has been launched on the Circular Line.
“We hope it brings joy to travelers. The festive train will be available for enjoyment until January 31, 2025,” stated Maksim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry.
In addition to the metro festivities, 60 Vityaz-Moscow trams have been beautifully decorated with sparkling lights and garlands in celebration of the New Year.
This signifies a remarkable increase, as the number of decorated trams has doubled compared to last year.
Deputy Mayor Liksutov remarked: “The New Year trams have grown into a cherished custom in our city.
“Under the direction of Mayor Sergey Sobyanin, we are once again creating a festive atmosphere for both locals and visitors of Moscow.”
With 60 elegantly adorned trams, a new milestone has been reached.
These illuminated trams can be seen on 28 different routes across the city.
Enhancing the festive atmosphere, eight facades of metro stations and Moscow Central Circle (MCC) stations in the city center have been beautifully decorated, alongside the installation of Two Hearts of the Capital near nine station entrances.
