Good evening and welcome to SunSport’s live blog for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year!

This esteemed ceremony is being held at BBC Sport’s headquarters in MediaCity, Salford.

Keely Hodgkinson emerges as a leading contender for the prestigious award after her remarkable achievements in the 800m race.

This Team GB star clinched a gold medal in the 800m at the Paris Olympics earlier this year.

The native of Atherton also snagged the European title in Rome, just two months prior to her event in France.

Hodgkinson established a new British national record, making her the sixth fastest woman in history.

Another notable candidate for Sports Personality of the Year is teenage darts prodigy Luke Littler, who finished as the runner-up at the World Darts Championship in January, elevating him into the spotlight as one of the top players in the sport.

Following his impressive showing at Alexandra Palace, Littler has secured ten PDC titles in his inaugural year on the professional circuit.

The 17-year-old is on track to become the youngest recipient of this prestigious honor in over sixty years. Additionally, England and Real Madrid football talent Jude Bellingham is also in contention for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.
