Durban – A heartbreaking multi-vehicle collision occurred on Old Dutch Road in Durban on Saturday afternoon, resulting in the loss of two pedestrians’ lives.

As reported by ALS Paramedics Medical Services, the incident involved five vehicles and took place shortly after 12:30 at an intersection.

Spokesperson Garrith Jamieson indicated that upon the paramedics’ arrival, they found that “five vehicles had collided at the intersection, with several of them veering off the road and hitting pedestrians.”

Jamieson elaborated: “Paramedics swiftly called for additional assistance to handle the multiple casualty situation.”

“Employing a triage system, they assessed that two male pedestrians had been struck while standing on the pavement.

“Tragically, one of the victims, a male in his 30s, sustained life-threatening injuries, and paramedics were unable to save him; he was declared dead at the scene.”

Jamieson also reported that a second male pedestrian, thought to be in his 40s, suffered life-threatening injuries and was placed on a manual ventilator by Advanced Life Support Paramedics before being urgently taken to a nearby specialized facility, but sadly, he also did not survive his injuries.

At least five other individuals from the affected vehicles received on-site treatment from ALS Paramedics before being transported to a hospital in Durban.

The details surrounding the accident remain unclear at this moment.

Officials from the South African Police Service were on-site.
