Durban – Tragically, one person lost their life while traveling with others in a vehicle that skidded off the slick M13 highway, crashed into a bridge, and fell several meters below, creating a somber atmosphere during the festive season.

The unusual accident occurred around noon on Friday, (13 December 2024).

“ALS Paramedics are presently on-site at a fatal single-vehicle accident that happened on the M13, near the Polo Pony offramp in the Shongweni region, west of Durban,” reported spokesperson Garrith Jamieson.

“At this time, it appears that the vehicle lost control due to the wet conditions and swerved off between the bridges, dropping a significant distance below.”

“Rescue teams are actively attempting to free those trapped in the wreckage; however, one individual has been confirmed deceased.”

There were three individuals in the vehicle.

The deceased, a passenger in his 20s, suffered severe injuries and could not be rescued.

Paramedics declared him dead at the scene.

The other two occupants received stabilization treatment on-site before being moved to a medical facility.
