Johannesburg – The Department of Home Affairs has announced an extension of its operating hours starting today, (10 December), lasting until 20 December 2024, by adding an extra two hours to the daily operational timeframe for all services.
“During this period, offices will now close at 18:00 instead of the usual 16:00,” the department communicated on Tuesday.
“To ease the burden on clients, Home Affairs has introduced dedicated counters for collections at larger offices that process Smart ID Cards and passports, where space allows.”
The department indicated that clients have the option to schedule application or collection appointments before visiting the offices by using the Branch Appointment Booking System (BABS) available on the DHA Website – http://www.dha.gov.za https://services.dha.gov.za/#/authenticate/identity.
Moreover, clients who may not have the opportunity to book appointments can walk in without a prior appointment.
“We urge all clients who have applied for their identification documents and have been waiting for three weeks or longer to take advantage of this opportunity by visiting their Home Affairs office to collect these vital documents at their convenience,” the department encouraged.
Home Affairs Minister Leon Schreiber stated: “These extended hours and process enhancements reflect our commitment to ensuring dignity for all our clients.”
“We understand that many people travel during the festive season, which is why Home Affairs is taking additional measures to ensure South Africans receive the necessary documents to cherish important moments with friends and family.”
