Johannesburg – Gauteng police successfully rescued two businessmen who had been kidnapped and arrested seven suspects involved in the case.
Authorities seized firearms, mobile phones, and vehicles that were used during the criminal acts.

Explaining the sequence of events that led to the arrests, police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Amanda van Wyk stated: “On Saturday, (7 December 2024), a Chinese businessman was hijacked and taken in Springs, Ekurhuleni by a gang of individuals.”

Lieutenant Colonel Van Wyk also mentioned: “In less than 24 hours, a multi-disciplinary team acted on intelligence that pinpointed the kidnappers’ whereabouts.”

“The team intercepted the abductors’ vehicle, an Audi A3, at an intersection in Lenasia, successfully apprehending two suspects on Sunday, (8 December 2024).

“Following that, the team moved to a location in Meriting where they captured one additional kidnapper and rescued the businessman.”

Lieutenant Colonel Van Wyk noted that in an unrelated incident which took place on 1 December 2024, another businessman was hijacked and kidnapped by a group of suspects in Wierdabrug.

“The victim’s vehicle was later found in the Heuweloord area,” she explained.

“An intelligence unit guided a multi-disciplinary team to recover the kidnappers’ vehicle, a Jeep, which had been left in a garage in Nellmapius, Tshwane.”

Lieutenant Colonel Van Wyk explained that the team followed leads that directed them to an address in Mamelodi, Tshwane, where they arrested an additional four suspects and rescued two kidnapped victims.

“Firearms, mobile phones, a Jeep SRT8, and a Hyundai Getz were confiscated,” stated Lieutenant Colonel Van Wyk.

“Investigations into both incidents are ongoing.

“These operations were made possible through the collaboration of various law enforcement agencies and private security forces.”
