Pietermaritzburg – A devastating multi-vehicle collision involving trucks and a bus took place on the N3 North Bound close to Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, resulting in the tragic loss of two lives and several injuries.

The deadly incident occurred around 10 p.m. on Thursday, December 5, 2024.

When ALS Paramedics arrived at the scene, they discovered two trucks and a fully loaded bus involved in a rear-end crash on the national highway.

“Upon collision, the vehicles caught fire,” reported Garrith Jamieson, spokesperson for ALS Paramedics, late Thursday.

“The Pietermaritzburg Fire Department was dispatched to extinguish the blaze while Paramedics assessed and treated multiple victims.”

“Currently, it seems that both the bus driver and the truck driver have lost their lives due to the injuries sustained in the crash.”

“Approximately 20 individuals were treated at the scene for a range of injuries by various ambulances before being transported to different hospitals in Pietermaritzburg for further medical attention.”

The road is expected to remain closed as emergency personnel work to clear the area.

At this moment, the circumstances leading to the accident remain unclear; however, all relevant authorities are present and will initiate an investigation.
