The Democratic Alliance (DA) remains steadfast in seeking accountability from former Justice Minister Thembi Simelane concerning her alleged involvement in the VBS Mutual Bank scandal, irrespective of her recent appointment in the cabinet.

During President Cyril Ramaphosa’s cabinet reshuffle, Simelane has been assigned to the Ministry of Human Settlements, with Mmamoloko Kubayi stepping in as the new Justice Minister.

DA Spokesperson Adv. Glynnis Breytenbach criticized the decision, voicing concerns over Simelane’s persistent role in the cabinet, and termed her continued presence as a disrespect to the intelligence of South Africans.

“Minister Simelane has faced scrutiny for the last five months. It took the president five months to reach this choice; only the Lord knows the reasoning behind it.

“Now, instead of dismissing her amidst clear evidence of her substantial conflicts and compromises, he merely reassigns her to another ministry while keeping her in the cabinet—this decision should be revisited until all matters are addressed.

This simple lateral move is nothing less than an affront to the intelligence of every South African,” Breytenbach asserted.
