Residents of Delft are reeling from the shocking murder of a 13-year-old boy.

His lifeless body was discovered near Blikkiesdorp early yesterday morning at around 6 AM.

The boy’s face bore several stab wounds, and he had also suffered injuries to his abdomen.

Jacky Ockhuizen, spokesperson for the Delft Community Policing Forum (CPF), reported that the boy appeared to have been restrained.

Ockhuizen noted: “In the early hours of yesterday morning, around 5:55 AM, we received a call from a passenger on their way to work in a taxi in Delft South. They noticed what looked like a child lying in an open field near Tsunami corners at Sandelhout Street and Cocktree Road.”

“We immediately notified the police to begin an investigation.

“The Delft SAPS confirmed the discovery of the body of a 13-year-old boy abandoned in the open field just opposite Tsunami in Delft South.

“It appears that the boy was assaulted elsewhere, as he exhibited visible injuries to his face and abdomen. It was clear that he had been restrained at his arms.”

Ockhuizen indicated that the motive behind this brutal murder remains unclear.

He added: “Investigating officers are tirelessly pursuing leads regarding this incident, even while the body stayed at the scene. The boy has yet to be identified.”

“As CPF Delft leaders, we unequivocally condemn all forms of gender-based violence (GBV), child trafficking, child rape, and murders that occur in and around the Delft area.”

“We, as CPF, are planning an urgent meeting with the Delft station commander to call for enhanced police and law enforcement presence, including increased police patrols in and around Delft this festive season to ensure the safety of residents.”

Captain FC van Wyk, a police spokesperson, confirmed that Delft detectives are investigating the murder case following the finding of the 13-year-old boy’s body on Tuesday.

He stated: “According to reports, SAPS members on duty received a notification about a person lying in the field.”

“Upon arrival, they discovered the teenager’s body positioned on his back, with multiple injuries to his body and face.

“He was clad in blue jeans, a maroon t-shirt, and red All Star sneakers.

“The circumstances surrounding this tragic incident are currently being examined, and no arrests have been made so far. The motive is part of the ongoing police investigation.”
