DARTS star Luke Humphries engaged in a heated discussion with snooker legend Shaun Murphy after suggesting that achieving a nine-darter is more challenging than completing a 147 maximum break.
Humphries and Murphy were among the athletes featured in Paddy Power’s Perfect Challenge.
Two darts players, two snooker players, and two golf competitors gathered to resolve a long-standing question: which achievement is the most challenging—hitting a hole-in-one, scoring a 147 break, or throwing a nine-darter?
According to the current world darts champion Humphries, for a beginner, completing a 147 will be the hardest task.
Nonetheless, he claimed that for an experienced player, landing a nine-darter is a bigger challenge.
The world No. 1 remarked: “If you hand someone a set of darts, a snooker cue, and a golf club, I think they’d achieve a hole-in-one the easiest, followed by a nine-darter, and then the 147. That’s the most difficult of all.”
“But a professional player understands all the angles in snooker.”
Murphy, a former world snooker champion, could be heard laughing before replying, “I had no idea you were a comedian. A 147 is more difficult than a nine-darter.”
Humphries answered, “What’s so amusing about that? Did you listen to what I said? I pointed out that as a professional, knowing the angles makes it appear simple.”
“Considering legs and frames, there are more people who achieve 147s than those who score nine-darters.”

Murphy then responded, “Well, that doesn’t mean it’s easier.”
The uncomfortable exchange concluded with Humphries replying quickly, “I never claimed it was easier.”
Ultimately, the only achievement during the challenge was the successful 147 break scored by Murphy.
