After conceding points to Royal AM at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday, Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi openly shared his disappointment. He indicated that his players’ performance showed a lack of respect and professionalism, leaving him in shock.

In the first half, Chiefs were in control, netting two swift goals from Ashley du Preez and Wandile Duba within a mere 13 minutes. Regrettably, they couldn’t maintain their advantage, allowing Royal AM to claw their way back into the game.

Ayabulela Maxwele reduced the deficit after Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen was caught out of position, underscoring the team’s struggles in managing defensive situations.

Levy Mashiane leveled the score to 2-2 for Shauwn Mkhize’s squad, cleverly chipping the ball over Given Msimango, who had rushed out to intercept, before placing it past Petersen in injury time, which left Nabi in disbelief.

“What we saw was a distinct lack of professionalism,” Nabi stated angrily. “We had opportunities to score five or six goals in the first half, but we squandered them. At times, it’s about failing to operate as a unified team or allowing individual egos to overshadow collective effort. If we don’t show respect to the game, it won’t reward us in return.”

Nabi specifically expressed disappointment about Yusuf Maart’s missed chance in the first half, highlighting how some players prioritized personal accolades over team success.

“We missed too many chances,” he bemoaned. “After the 25-minute mark, it felt like everyone was more worried about their individual performances. That’s unacceptable, and I raised these concerns on the field and during halftime. I emphasized the need to keep striving for goals.”

Following the draw, Chiefs are positioned sixth on the Betway Premiership table, having collected 11 points from seven matches.
